Update: the vision bonus ended on December 31, 2023, and was not renewed.
The vision bonus is finally operational, a one-off 50 euro contribution for purchasing prescription glasses or corrective contact lenses. The measure was provided for by the 2021 Budget Law (Law no. 178 of December 30, 2020, art. 1, paragraphs 437-439), with a fund of 5 million euros per year for 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Who can apply
The bonus is available to members of households with an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) below 10,000 euros. It can be obtained once per person, only for prescription glasses or corrective contact lenses: not for sunglasses or accessories.
How to apply
The application is made on the Ministry of Health's platform, by logging in with SPID, CIE, or CNS. There are two ways:
- Reimbursement for purchases made from January 1, 2021, to May 4, 2023: you self-certify your ISEE, provide your IBAN, and upload the receipt or invoice. The deadline is July 3, 2023.
- Voucher of 50 euros for a new purchase, requestable from May 5, 2023, until funds are exhausted. The voucher must be spent within 30 days at an optician participating in the initiative.
Important note on tax returns
The bonus does not remove the right to deduct healthcare expenses, but it must be taken into account: for 2023 purchases, the reimbursement reduces the deductible expense, while for 2021 and 2022 expenses that have already been deducted, the reimbursement is taxed separately.
