Eye health and vision disorders
The visual system is a marvel of nature that evolves over time. At Ottica Paoletti in Pieve di Soligo we look after our customers' eyesight every day, and we know how important it is to understand how it works.
Ideal vision: the emmetropic eye
An emmetropic eye represents ideal vision:
- light focuses perfectly on the retina
- the brain receives sharp, well-defined images
- vision is clear at all distances
The main vision problems
Myopia: blurred distance vision
The eye is longer than normal and distant objects look blurred. It is corrected with personalised diverging lenses.
Hyperopia: eye strain up close
The eye is shorter than normal and reading or close work is tiring. It is corrected with custom converging lenses.
Astigmatism: distorted vision
The cornea has an irregular curvature and images look distorted at all distances. It is corrected with personalised toric lenses.
Presbyopia: the natural evolution of eyesight
It appears after 40, because the lens loses elasticity. It is corrected with modern progressive lenses.
Discover all vision problems in our guide to the main vision problems.
Eye diseases not to be underestimated
Some conditions, such as glaucoma (often linked to high eye pressure) and cataract (clouding of the lens), require diagnosis and monitoring by an ophthalmologist. If during the eye test we notice something that deserves further investigation, we will advise you to see an ophthalmologist.
