Low vision

Imagine looking through a fogged-up window or reading with an almost flat torch. That is how people living with low vision see: a significant loss of vision that cannot be resolved with ordinary glasses.

What low vision is

We speak of low vision when, even with the best possible correction, vision remains so reduced that everyday activities such as reading, recognising faces or moving around safely become difficult. It can be the result of various eye diseases, for example macular degeneration, glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy.

Signs not to be underestimated

  • Blurred central vision: like a spot in the centre of your gaze
  • Tunnel vision: you only see well in the centre
  • Missing parts of the visual field
  • Foggy vision even with glasses
  • Strong sensitivity to light
  • Difficulty with contrast: outlines and steps are hard to make out

If you notice any of these signs, the first step is a visit to the ophthalmologist, who identifies the cause and monitors the disease.

How we can help

When vision is reduced, optical aids can help make the most of remaining sight in everyday life: magnifying lenses and systems for reading, filters to reduce glare, advice on lighting. At Ottica Paoletti we help you understand which ones may be useful in your case, also based on your ophthalmologist's recommendations.
