Postural optometric assessment

The postural optometric assessment is a more in-depth evaluation of your vision than a standard eye test: besides measuring how well you see, it assesses how your eyes work together, how they focus and how vision relates to posture. We carry it out based on Ottica Paoletti's experience in vision and posture.

How it differs from an eye test

A traditional eye test mainly checks visual acuity, that is, how sharp your vision is. The postural optometric assessment, inspired by behavioural optometry, also considers:

  • how the two eyes work together (binocular vision)
  • the ability to focus at different distances and to keep focus over time
  • eye movements
  • postural habits linked to vision, for example tilting the head to see better

What it is for

  • Understanding the cause of complaints such as eye strain, discomfort when reading or neck tension when they depend on vision
  • Finding the most suitable correction, including custom-designed lenses
  • Assessing, when useful, a course of vision therapy (visual training)

Who it is for

  • Children and teenagers: when reading, writing or copying from the board seem tiring
  • Adults: for those who spend many hours at the computer or doing close work and feel visual fatigue
  • People undergoing treatment with doctors, physiotherapists or osteopaths who also want the visual aspect assessed

The postural optometric assessment does not replace an examination by an ophthalmologist, which is still recommended every year.
