The importance of nutrition.
We all know that nutrition plays a fundamental role in preventing many diseases, and carefully choosing the foods we eat is an act of love towards ourselves and those around us.
In this post, we'll look at the "good foods" that are beneficial for eyesight... besides the famous carrots, of course!
Eye-friendly foods
CITRUS FRUITS: Rich in vitamin C, they help fight free radicals and repair their damage. Recent studies have shown that vitamin C helps maintain the function of optic nerve cells. So, go ahead and enjoy oranges, tangerines, lemons, and grapefruits!
ORANGE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: Carrots, apricots, melons, and pumpkin contain a lot of beta-carotene, an essential substance for good vision. Peaches and bell peppers, on the other hand, are rich in vitamin C and zeaxanthin, useful for counteracting free radicals and preventing cellular aging.
GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES: Green cabbage, spinach, Swiss chard, and chicory are excellent sources of lutein and zeaxanthin. These elements protect the macula of the eye.
FISH: Tuna, salmon, trout, mackerel, anchovies, and sardines contain large amounts of DHA. This Omega-3 fatty acid is a powerful natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Its presence in breast milk attests to its importance.
EGGS: Precious for the health of our eyes thanks to the presence of DHA, vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B12. And also lutein, cysteine, and lecithin, important antioxidants for preventing cellular aging.
NUTS: Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, and pine nuts are rich in antioxidants and vitamin E. They protect cells from oxidative stress and premature aging.
PAPRIKA: This spice, which we can add to make many dishes tastier, is rich in vitamin E, vitamin A, and vitamin K. It also contains lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect retinal cells.
AVOCADO: This fruit is rich in antioxidants and minerals, as well as vitamin C, pantothenic acid, folate, vitamin E, and K. A true goldmine for health!
BERRIES: Strawberries, cranberries, blueberries, raspberries... all delicious fruits, rich in Vitamin C, vitamin K, and vitamin E. Thanks to a high quantity of antioxidants, they prevent aging and help control blood pressure.
TEA: Black tea and green tea are particularly rich in antioxidants, which is why they are very important for preventing cataracts and maculopathy. A maximum of four cups a day is recommended.
DARK CHOCOLATE: Thanks to the high amount of flavonoids it contains, chocolate promotes blood circulation and thus the health of our eyes. It is important that the cocoa content is at least 70%.
WINE: Drunk in moderation, it provides valuable antioxidants for our visual well-being. Resveratrol, in particular, slows down aging processes and has a protective function on the retina.
