Test 3 – Amsler grid
The Amsler grid is used to self-check your central vision: you look to see whether the lines of the grid appear distorted or incomplete.
How to do it
- Repeat the test once a week.
- Use good lighting and, if you wear them, your reading glasses.
- Cover one eye and do the test with the other.
- Look at the dot in the centre of the grid.
- Note any irregularities: wavy lines, distortions, grey or blurred areas.
- Repeat with the other eye.
How to read the result
If you notice anomalies or changes compared with previous times, see an ophthalmologist.
