The 7 Main Vision Defects: Symptoms, Causes and Treatments
Myopia
It is the most common vision defect, affecting 30% of the European population, and is the most common eye disorder.
Hyperopia
It is a refractive defect in which the vision of nearby objects appears more blurred than that of distant ones; sometimes it is possible to see very distant objects clearly in mild hyperopia, but in the case of severe hyperopia these too appear blurred.
Astigmatism
It is a very common and generally easily curable eye defect that depends on the shape of the cornea, which is not similar to that of a football, but is more similar to that of a rugby ball.
Presbyopia
consists of the progressive and natural inability of the eye to focus on closer objects.
Amblyopia
also known as "lazy eye", is a condition that affects 4% of the world's population and is characterized by a more or less marked reduction in the visual capacity of one eye.
Strabismus
consists of the deviation of the visual axes caused by the malfunctioning of the neuromuscular mechanisms that control eye movements.
Low vision
It is a condition of very limited visual acuity that has significant consequences on daily life.
