Essilor presents the new Varilux® X series™ progressive lenses

With the new Varilux® X series™ progressive lenses, Essilor offers a new cutting-edge solution for near vision problems.

Essilor improves the visual experience of presbyopes by putting their needs at the heart of its innovation process. The Group's designers have worked to improve near vision, to enable the many activities we do at proximal distances, in line with our modern lifestyle. The Varilux® X series™, in particular, has been designed to meet the ever-changing expectations of Generation X, those born between 1965 and 1980 who are active and digitally connected and do not want to feel limited by presbyopia. These are progressive lenses that guarantee optimal vision at any distance.

By working the entire surface of the lens point by point, a typical discomfort caused by many progressive lenses is eliminated: having to adjust the position of the head to find the right angle. Varilux® X series™ is the result of innovation in lens design with Xtend™ technology that offers additional benefits to meet today’s needs for near vision. Thanks to a new calculator, Essilor is able to design each lens with much greater precision by taking into account multiple targets for each direction of gaze.

Nearly 3,000 presbyopes around the world collaborated on the development of Varilux® X series™ through focus group discussions, video selfies and innovative wearer testing, including Essilor’s new HouseLab™: a controlled home environment to observe and discuss user experiences.

Following the launch of Varilux® X series™ in Europe, over 10,000 eye care professionals have already begun to learn about the benefits of these progressive lenses. Using augmented reality, video mapping and 2D and 3D animations, the various events have highlighted the innovative aspects of the new progressive lenses from a high-tech perspective and illustrated how the visual experience of presbyopes is improved.

Varilux®, invented by Essilor in 1959, is the world's leading progressive lens brand with more than 50 patents obtained during over 50 years of research and development.
